Tonight, Thursday June 9th, I will be launching the art zine Space is the Place.
My friend Andrew and I created it some months ago and we’ve now decided to release it upon the world.
I wanted the launch to be a rave-themed party because I’m having a “Party Monster” moment and because the zine is most definitely channeling day glo and drugs.
Check out the website we created in support of it. It also contains the information to rsvp for the event. Should be fun!

Here is the second (and third) pair of custom designed Toms sneakers for Movember’s Los Angeles and Toronto shows.
Same riff on the initial sneaker but these were for ladies.
The black ones subsequently sold, the white ones were just for me and never exhibited.
Unfortunately, I’m a size 9. I might be able to squeeze my feet in them though.
Created using spray paint, silver paint pen and fabric marker.

This week Sephora launched my signature eyeshadow compact. You can pick one up HEREIt’s for Holiday and the illustrations were based around the theme “til dawn.”
Maybe you can’t tell in the photo, but that illustration is shiny silver ink on a black gloss case. In real life it’s very SPARKLY!I love Sephora and was so excited to finally get to have my art on something related to make up. Thanks to Michelle Ng for supporting me all these years and being the catalyst for this to happen. Yay!
Make up gods, I really really want to do art on nail polish.

Tried to do something sorta gothy but I think the idea of a girl with a pentagram on her forehead was a tad too edgy. Just a tad…
The trick was to create something that was legible when inverted. For example, this image looked horrible.

Here is a piece I recently completed. It began as an experiment in non-figurative collage and shape building.
Through the process it became a scene that reads as a ship at port or in the midst of a maddening cityscape.
Sorry if this is a total tease (the list is closed) but here is a rad show I’m in tonight.
It’s in LA so, unfortunately, I can’t go. Someone take pictures of the event and all the art by awesome people!

Sneaks on sneaks. Pretty much sums it up.
Years ago painting on objects was the art-curatorial trend du jour.
I was asked to paint on skateboards (for Hit the Deck at Subliminal Projects in LA, Decked out at Culture Cache in SF, and No Damn Good at Alena in Montreal), or on Converse (for the traveling Sneaker Pimps show that touched down in Greenpoint and then made its way across Europe), and even on a pair of ladies underpants for a feminist art show. Suffice to say, I was on a roll for a couple of years there.
Well, I’m back in the game again. This time it’s painting on Toms for Movember. Thankfully, the concept feels fresh again.
It’s really nice to do work that’s self directed and the work I’m creating benefits a non-profit supporting prostate cancer research and awareness.
Here is the first pair. Definitely a work in process.
I began by using fabric markers and quickly switched gears and coated the shoes in gesso and tried my hand at acrylic paint.
I have six pairs to play with and three will make their way to Toronto, LA, and NYC. I’ll post the final versions soon enough!

For the last few years I’ve been exploring pattern and repetition when I create personal work. First it was a total obsession with enamel paintings of Islamic and Scandinavian textiles for my patchwork quilt series. Then it was origami paper cut outs covered in resin for Tokion Magazine’s show at Cinders Gallery. I’ve been painting again but now it’s been in the form of backdrops for fashion editorials. The Refinery29 swimwear story I created with James has been my favorite.
I’m once again diving in and manipulating patterns but this time utilizing my old high school standby: collage.
I’ve been cutting up my own paintings, xeroxes of my work, and print outs of my remixed Kuba and Mud cloth or Op Art patterns I’ve culled from Ebay and the internet.

Deep into references from 1912, Bauhaus textiles, cubist forms. I’ve created a series of patterns utilizing ink with paint brushes on top of various brightly colored paper. I think this is the beginning of a series. Right now I’m just playing and seeing where it all takes me. Eventually I want to make some much larger scale work. Maybe cover it all with resin in the end.

Working, cutting, playing with the arrangement. Generally making a mess.
Just sprayed this with gloss coat. When it’s dry I might mount it and cover with resin.
Oh and this the view from my desk. I got the cat in Australia. Hi Cat!
I designed various Space is the Place stickers for our forthcoming zine and Elizabeth Spiridakis designed the fancy one. They all arrived today!

I like getting google notifications that my wares are for sale. Today I discovered a tee of mine, “Kiss of Death,” is currently available at Urban Outfitters UK. Too bad the wrinkles make the girl’s eyes look a lil “special.”
Another one of my tees is now being carried at Oak — a great boutique with locations in Williamsburg and in Manhattan on Bond Street. They’ll be getting in my Charlotte Rampling tee, “The Night Porter,” shortly. I think they’re mostly for dudes right now, but the Blood is the New Black website has ladies sizes.

Recently I was asked by Peggy and Shirley to create art for another one of Ford’s “challenges” promoting the Ford Fiesta.
Our first collaboration was the Tribeca billboard highlighting Peggy and Shirley’s 10 favorite NYC spots.
The ladies wanted their map to be inspired by 1990′s Lisa Frank stickers, and obviously it had to incorporate each of the locations, including bubble tea spot Quickly, record shop-venue Cake Shop, kosher deli Russ & Daughters, as well as some high class establishments like Dallas BBQ.
Here’s the result!
Our most recent “challenge” was to design an image inspired by a Roxy athlete (in our case famed surfer Lisa Andersen) for a t-shirt, tote bag, and hat.
The resulting illustration had to embody not only the Roxy brand but also resonate with the vibe of the Ford Fiesta campaign.
I created a logo featuring a collage of cute vintage surfing images, athletic girls from the Roxy team, fun graphics that feel summery and embrace the California culture of sun worshipers.

I’m working on several fun projects… shirts for Roxy & Ford, a music video pitch for Ladytron, work for Casemate, and huge paintings that will function as backdrops for a fashion editorial shoot this coming Thursday. The following images show my work in progress from today. The images come from vintage wallpaper with colors that I’ve reworked, projected, and am now painting on a very large scale. As in 9 feet by 9 feet. I am trying to make sure these read as paintings and not as wallpaper, so drips and loose interpretations are key.
A very pale blonde haired model wearing summer florals and white will soon be standing in front of my backdrops. Hoping it turns out!

I’ve been drawing and painting ladies in varying states of undress for a couple of seasons: bikini clad girls fighting, centerfolds painted in enamel, x-rated collages. There’s been a variety of references and homages to my favorite muses and films, be they Marianne Faithful, Mia Farrow in Secret Ceremony or Charlotte Rampling in The Night Porter.
The last few shirt graphics I did for Blood is the New Black explored similar themes, while taping into darker motifs and several referencing my relationship to Ancient Egyptian iconography. I just found out that Oak (one of my favorite stores) will be carrying two of my shirts from my recent “film series.” Here they are:

One of the digital collages I cooked up. The image features a variety of random x-rated sixties images from ladmags and even a Flying Lizard’s reference. Not too subtle but I like where it’s heading.
