i'm in my old home in walnut creek (it's near berkeley-- but way way more boring) right now. just before, i went to santa cruz and saw some old friends and their new band and got way too drunk in sf with some troublemakers. i'm also trying to squeeze in some illustrations before i fly to la tomorrow night but it's more difficult than i expected. i'm then scoping out some kids, an art show of fawn's, and my (i hope) future school. my ph is 6463823463 and if you live in la/oc and you're not a crazy... maybe we can kick it.

we swapped tokyo for hong kong and now i'm staying with ceci's uncle for a few days. i think i'll be leaving sooner than i expected and appear in la or sf (nothing is finalized) around the 8th.
the last few days in tokyo were sorta strange because new years is a big deal there and from january 1st to the 4th a lot of things are closed because of it's religious ties. all banks and post offices were and we freaked out because we had about 10 dollars between us. luckily we figured some things out and ended up hopping from temple to temple and exploring a city an hour away from tokyo filled with shrines and possibly the biggest buddah i'll ever see. after our walk to one of the shrines ceci stumbled upon the most amazing costume of all time: a red cartoon happy squid outfit and mask. we promptly went to get neo-prints and took about a million of me (sailor) battling her (squid) and vice versa. THEY ARE AMAZING. as soon as i can scan these bitches, i will.
i am trying to proposition our friend dave, a photo student, to do a series based upon ceci as a sexy squid in weird locations. it could be the craziest best thing ever. sexy squid goes bowling, sexy squid gets her nails done, sexy squid goes grocery shopping. i dunno. you'll see.

i am becoming a chopstick master.
people politely laugh at me when i tell them my shoe size because here my feet are beyond gigantor. ceci is reaping all the benefits and rubbing it in. i have seen millions of the cutest affordable shoes of all time. i'm insanely jealous. i want red hottt flats damnit.
ceci bought a BURGER PILLOW. i held off because i think i can some how commission/create a better one. i am a burger snob! however, hers is pretty intense; complete with "king of junk" sewn on the bun. we found it at this store called Swimmer that was stocked to the brim with retro 60's and 70's inspired take on sanrio. the designs are fantastic, but i held back and only bought a thermos.
the shopping here is completely overwhelming. we walked from store to store for 12 hours and only saw a small fraction of shibuya. intense.

today is my first full day in tokyo with miss ceci. so far we're doing our share of shopping and in a little bit we are going to shopahollic ville aka shibuya/harijuku (or however you spell it) and we'll turn into kids from fruits. the people here are super nice-- one lady walked 10 minutes out of her way to show me to my hotel when i was super super lost and a businessman walked ceci's two suitcases up several flights of stairs for her--- and super trusting. nobody locks their bikes or anything.
later in the day:
things are much cheaper than i expected and i found the most perfect clothing, including the best peacoat-parka of all time. i found a second jacket for 20 bones and nearly all the other things i wanted were under 30. i bought armfulls of the cutest socks with anchors, hearts, and out of control polkadots. all the kids here are soooo hottttt and the food is good and reasonable, everything is super cute and clean and well, perfect... except i can't speak a lick. we explored japan's answer to the m.o.m.a (which was better i think) and the imperial palace and discovered that japanese are afraid to make noise ion the pot because they have these electronic buttons you press that make LOUD splashing and whirling sounds so nobody can hear you do your business on the toilet. i'm not describing it right. it was the funniest thing of all time.

6:25 pm - NO MORE SCHOOL! for now.
|
thanks for the feedback about the posters. post japan/ca i'll make three images and then do a silkscreen one too.
i finished my "paper" doll and gave her several outfits. on the way home from class one of her shoes fell off! she looks lame with one sock and one shoe. it'll be months before i'm around a woodshop again. very sad indeed. i'll scan the outfits and make a interactive flash paper doll. i'll take pictures as soon as i'm done with my nap (little keren hasn't slept yet).
for now, here's one of my finished flash assignments: an interactive movie with buttons (they're sorta hidden so click around) that involves a trip to parsons--the only reference is a little red house symbolizing "school". i'm sneaky.

i want to get a print made of my work -- something on glossy card--not archival-- about 11" x 17". if i don't do that, i'll silkscreen a limited edition poster (or have seripop do it) of a brand new image. of the ones posted below which number(s) are your favorites? would you purchase one for 10 dollars?

two flash projects done. one is a portfolio all in flash. it's fairly simple looking but you'd never guess how fucking long it took me even without crazy action scripting. i must be the slowest flash makin lady on the planet.
now on to my next project. i have my 2' "paper" doll all cut out thanks to some rather dexterous boys. i still have to paint her clothing and if i have enough time, create bloody arms and weird accessories too. my friends think it's not fucked up enough yet. they're right. at the moment it's just a cliche doll-- but big and out of wood. i'm thinking to make it a bit more interesting, one side will have the doll's guts showing and the other doll will have the ole black-eye standby. one's got a sailor dress and the other has a polka dot pinafore red/white number.
i guess you'll have to see.
ohhhh and this boy asked me to design three skateboard decks for him. the only problem is sounds like i'm gonna be paid pittance. i'm gonna do it anyway. i can't get over the idea that i may get to skate on my own "professional" boards

the new issue of giant robot has barry mcgee featured on the cover and inside. my classmates and i are supposed to present on him and margaret on monday so i called deitch and found out how much his pieces sell for. 20 bottles is 20,000 bones and 100 is 100,000 for an installation. parsons can still afford that, but holy shit that's a lot of money. none of margaret's pieces are available but perhaps if we got barry to install something he's donate a piece or two of hers just to be nice.
i'm flying with ceci to japan in less than two weeks. anyone know cool kids there who will be our friend and show us around?

12:43 am - no smoking for yoouuuuuu
|
Smoking will be banned in workplaces citywide — including bars, restaurants and bowling alleys — beginning in late March or early April under a new agreement reached yesterday by city leaders.
my darling nyc chimney stacks... sucks to be you! i'm practically the only non smoker of my friends and realize nearly everyone i know will be pissed... but who cares, i'm stoked and so fucking happy. i hate how my clothing always reeks, my throat hurts, i smell like shit, and can tell my lungs are slowly collapsing everytime i go out to lit and other smoky bars. so glad that'll soon be over...

anyone in the nyc area know how to use a jigsaw / bansaw and could help me with an art project?
i need to make a paper doll that's 2 feet tall and can stand up on its own out of wood. i need someone's help to cut the silhouette of her figure and of two outfits out of wood. i also need to make some sort of slot in the wood so i can slide two "feet" on the doll so she stands. can anyone help? the project is due next week so i need to get started asap.
i'll pay you/ do you favors for life
i'm all set up. rock.

i'm really into the cd that came with the new issue of K48. most of the songs on it i always just assummed were cheesey "electroclash" and either saw the band (soviet/ creme blush) and they blew or i just assumed they would given the hype (wit).
oh, and gravy train are on the cd. someone said they're gonna be on larry t's label, which would be weird, but i guess appropriate.
i have this strange urge to go to luxx coming over me. maybe just so i can hear more prance and ave d. hahahah. anyone wanna tape me some deerhoof and kid america? i wanna hear more.

i'm doing a flash project with lots of snowflakes and clouds. it's supposed to be about a "trip to parsons in 8 steps" but i totally twisted it and the only parsons reference is a house with the letter P on it. sadly, flash takes me about 3000 times longer than making a painting, reading a book, or writing an essay. i once spent 40+ hours on a project. i realize i'm getting faster bit by bit, but my grade in my class is horrible because i never turn anything in on time. i'm just too damn slow.
"desperately seeking susan" was on tv and i watched it rather than do any work. speaking of madonna, i have to watch the 70's version of that film she was in recently for class.
i need a haircut badly. i want anna karina's haircut ala "my life to live" but i have the wrong hairtype and am in denial about it.

i am a glove-hog. i got two for me and two for ryan. i always lose my gloves so i am now fully prepared. sad to all the nyc kids who will be freezie-freakies-less since there is only one pair of mediums left in the whole store. ♥ i am really enjoying living with ryan. i'm quite surprised by this. i can't tell if that's because i'm a total pessimist or just because i've had bad experiences previously. so far it's been really nice and i guess wintertime always puts me in a good mood. we're gonna wake up early and get bagels at cosi. i've decided that cosi have the best bagels in nyc, right up there with noah's "new york" bagels. i will forever hate noah's for not having "new york" bagels in new york. the frauds! ♥ i watched all the goddard films (woman is a woman = the best of the bunch i think). this week i think i've seen 8 movies. nyu only has two czech new wave films in its entire film center. i found that really odd and depressing. i was going to write about my favorite film, "daises" and checked out all these books that actually had writing about the director, but everything i wanted to compare or contrast it with was absolutely impossible to find. maybe i didn't look hard enough. so, i've got me an essay on goddard instead. watched umbrellas of cherbourg too. i'm not into musicals but that film didn't annoy me. actually, i liked it quite a bit. it seems that most of the french films always end depressingly or unresolved. nearly every film i've seen this week, including the two czech new wave films, "closely watched trains" and "larks on a string," end where someone dies and they thwart any sense of connection or emotion with long shots or there's a negative situation and you're left not knowing how to feel. after a while it pisses me off.

i just got finished giving a presentation on margaret kilgallen for my contemporary art class. two of my classmates did one on barry mcgee. the whole point of the assignment is to woo my classmates and then the the new school's art buyer into purchasing their artwork. my college has 50,000! dollars they can spend a year on art so they better buy some kilgallen and mcgee work... or else. ♥ ♥ ♥ on a completely different note, i'm such a bad jew i didn't even know it was hanukkah until my boyfriend's christian mom said happy hanukkah to me! my parents haven't called. guess that means gift exchanging aint happenin'. the boy will buy me twizzlers and butterfinger bb's or something silly. ah bah humbug. i don't need no stinkin presents. i haven't bought or made him anything either. i suck.
